Year 3

Welcome To Our Year 3 Class Page

Thank you for visiting our Class Page.

Year 3 are taught by Mrs McGaughey (Mon-Wed), Mrs McDiarmid (Wed-Fri) and Mrs Braithwaite.

In Year 3, we are working hard to become more independent learners and take on the challenges of Key Stage 2. We enjoy sharing our ideas, celebrating our achievements and exploring new ways of learning.

This term in Science, we are learning about rocks and fossils. We will be researching how rocks are formed and testing the different properties of rocks. We will explore the different types of rocks and soils that make up our world and think about how their properties make them useful. We will also be finding out how fossils are created and what we can learn from them.

Our Geography topic this term is called 'Can the Earth Shake, Rattle and Roll?' The children will be learning about the structure of the earth. We will focus on the cause and locations of earthquakes and volcanoes around the world. We will think about the effects that these natural disasters have on the landscape and the people that live there.

In Come & See, our topics this term are ‘Journeys’ and ‘Listening & Sharing’. We will be finding out about the church year and special events and celebrations that take place throughout the year.

Our PE lessons take place on Tuesday and Friday each week. This term we are learning to play ‘tag rugby’.

Please make sure your child has the correct PE kit in school each week. PE kits can be brought into school and kept in class for the duration of the half term.

PE kit consists of white t-shirt, blue/black shorts or leggings and black PE pumps. Please ensure that your child’s PE kit is fully labelled with their name.

Homework is given out on a Friday and should be returned by the following Tuesday.

Spellings are also given out on Friday for children in Mrs McGaughey/Mrs McDiarmid’s spelling group. We have a spelling test on a Wednesday morning, so children should spend some time learning their spellings to prepare for this.

Your child’s reading book and diary should be brought into school every day, to enable them to read their book in school. Children should continue to read their book at home as much as possible. Please sign your child’s diary when you listen to them read at home.

Homework this week:

Homework is given out in your child's homework books each Friday.

In addition to the homework given out each week, children in Year 3 have access to a number of educational websites to help with their learning.

Log-in details for each of these websites can be found in your child's homework diary.
